St. Vincent serenades NYC

A tribute to the city and her lost love

The mysterious art rock singer/songwriter and guitar virtuoso St. Vincent née Annie Clark, released a glorious music video for her single, “New York,” presumed to be included on her highly anticipated fifth album. Co-produced by the ubiquitous and in-demand producer Jack Antonoff (he just worked with Lorde on her newest album Melodrama), “New York” is a gorgeous, melancholy song about lost love in the city the former Texas resident now calls home. “You’re the only motherfucker in the city who can handle me,” she croons longingly to her ex-lover, and we feel every painful note she hits.

The video for “New York,” shows the singer on happy, brightly colored sets along with iconic emblems of New York City such as the Alamo, aka the Astor Place Cube, a flower-packed bodega, a nail salon, and the striking periwinkle wall on Houston St known as the Gateway to Soho. Directed by artist Alex Da Corte, the video is a visual wet dream, making the sadness of St. Vincent‘s breakup somehow seem okay. At least we hope so.
