Tenet is a revolutionary film, which escapes our standard expectations of an espionage thriller. Nolan, the director, narrates an international movie with time travel elements. The “inverse” of reality, which he calls it, affects most of the characters. Tenet is the story of a single spy charged with saving the world.

Nolan revolutionizes the way an epic unfolds. Shot in exotic spots, including Paris and India, the action spans continents and utilizes elegant and rugged places. The film has a star-studded cast; Robert Pattinson works alongside John David Washington, Michael Caine, and Kenneth Branagh. Washington, who plays the Protagonist, handles many of his stunts.

Nolan said he wanted to build on movie techniques that he’s already used to elevate his filmmaking. The camera team works in conjunction with the actors to set up shots–creating a symbiosis between the lens and cast. The project is shot primarily on IMAX.

Nolan avoids green screens and tries to showcase events like explosions and fight scenes. Nolan says he wants to offer audiences a reason to return to theaters. More so, he wants to offer a new spy thriller to redefine our perception of action. It’s a spy epic, and its reinvention of space and time brings together elements from his other projects, like Inception.
