Steeped In Tradition Episode 8: The Farmer is part of a video series. This episode is about a man named Dave Van Dame, a skier at Alta Ski Area (Utah). The video is directed by Mike Brown from Sweetgrass Productions and scored by Richard Swift. Bobby Jahrig and Zac Ramras are the cinematographers. The protagonist is the Farmer because he cultivates the land to reach its full skiing potential. His best farming, to date, is 44 runs in one skiing session. He says he can ski on untracked powder all day long.

Mindful of the environment, Dave takes a bus to the mountain that he has skied on for 48 years. He wears his signature red jacket and fits right into the aesthetic of the 83-year-old ski resort. There are sweeping shots of the majestic mountains. Dave says he loves skiing most during a storm when he jumps on the lift early and continues for the rest of the day.

Dave describes skiing as flying and sometimes floating. He has completed up to 2000 runs in a day. You’ll recognize Dave from his signature look…his frozen beard is captured in all of his ski pass pictures. You’re sure to enjoy this video series, whether it’s because you love the sport, you’re dedicated to the beauty and conservation efforts, or both. The Farmer is a refreshing video with great style that we here at PROVOKR love.
