Amid the quarantine, here’s an artist to help your mind wander while your body can’t. Gorgeous Georgia is a moving video and travel film about the Republic of Georgia, on the European/Asian border. With soaring overhead shots and high angle cinematography, this project unveils the beauty of a travel destination with poise and elegance. The film takes inspiration from shorts on the National Geographic and travel channels. It utilizes images of monuments and harbors to showcase the expansiveness and topographic diversity of the country.

Sites featured include the Gergeti Trinity Church and pictures of ancient Cardizia–a city etched from stone. The filmmaker Joerg Daiber shot and edited a series called LittleBigWorld over the last five years, which has featured an exploration of traditional travel spots.

Daiber uses drone footage and high camera angles to showcase locations. Alongside Gorgeous Georgia, he also has a piece titled Amazing Azerbaijan, which shows off the wondrous Republic of Azerbaijan. He uses long sequences of people moving from monuments and locations to the interior of the city. A score of Serenade by Tchaikovsky accompanies the video. It highlights the sophistication of the state and overwhelms the viewers with tactile sensation–showing the area’s majestic surroundings. The beauty of this film–which Daiber also edited–inspires us to travel and escape the confines of our quarantine.

Moving from site to site also inspires us to recall and try to remain in tune with the world around us. Through Daiber’s films, we remember the beauty of our planet and its structures. PROVOKR suggests you watch Daiber’s movies to enjoy a unique trip around the world. Watch Gorgeous Georgia here and Amazing Azerbaijan here (courtesy VIMEO).
