TROYE + KACEY TAKE IT EASY
A Mysterious, Moody Video About Love

Country icon Kacey Musgraves, popstar Troye Sivan, and Mark Ronson collaborated and released new music last week. The bouncy tune is “Easy.” Troye Sivan is Golden Globe-nominated, and Kacey Musgraves has multiple-Grammy awards. Mark Ronson has worked with many musicians and won an Academy Award for his work on A Star is Born.
“Easy’s” video has a neo-country aesthetic with a disco feel. Ronson is at home with a disco sound; he was a club DJ for years in the UK and New York. In the video, Sivan contemplates life with Musgraves, who looks like a hooker, as they navigate Nashville’s less desirable neighborhoods. Even the drawl–“darling”–captures the soul of the small-town surroundings.

Ronson infuses pop to the soundtrack that mixes perfectly with Sivan and Musgraves trance-like vocals and blend upbeat, sexy, elaborate lyrics. The video shows mundane life activities as she dyes her hair in the bathroom, and Troye sits outside the door. Gender boundaries dissolve back and forth.

The highway close-up at the end of the video looks like David Lynch’s Lost Highway, contributing to the ethos of this video’s aesthetic. It’s a fun, colorful video with Kelly Jeffry as the female director of photography. Bardia Zeinali directs, and Ronson infuses a fun synthetic beat to offer up four minutes of joy. It’s also an interesting example of neo-noir, Western, and urban worlds colliding in a unique way. PROVOKR says it’s “Easy” to love this song and video. We hope you do, too.
