Women in Film
The stunning work of female cinematographers

This “video essay” titled “12 Essential Women Cinematographers” by Jake Swinney strikes a blow for movie feminism by highlighting some of the great film scenes shot by female cinematographers who—unlike their male counterparts—never get the recognition they deserve. From the work of Maryse Alberti who devised indelible images for the Todd Haynes film Velvet Goldmine (1988) to Natasha Braier, an Argentine cinematographer who shot the psychological horror film The Neon Demon (2016), which was in the running for a Palme D’or at the Cannes Film Festival.
