Master Werner Herzog's Shocking Documentary

For 13 summers, Timothy Treadwell lived among Grizzly Bears in the wilds of Alaska. In the doc Grizzly Man, Werner Herzog uses video footage of the last 5 (the only ones Treadwell himself filmed). It is well known that Treadwell died young. How? You guessed it! Bear attack.

As in all his work, Werner Herzog reserves judgment and deals impartially with his subject. With respect and care, he gives the Grizzly Man his due.
Does this beautifully crafted film leave the viewer with many seemingly dichotomous questions?
–Was this man a fool or an educator?
–Did he do good or harm to the bears in their habitat? In public opinion?
–Is this bravery or stupidity?
–Was Treadwell’s temperament as mercurial as his subjects?

Maybe there are no simple black or white answers to these questions. There are shades of gray. After all, Treadwell credits his journey into recovery and sobriety solely to his kinship with the Grizzlies. Perhaps, he would have died much earlier by his own hand (succumbing to his addiction). Who can say?
We highly recommend this film.
