Wenders Loves Sander

Wim Wenders Directs a Jil Sander Ad Campaign

BY: Claire Connors

Jil Sander Creative Designers, Lucie and Luke Meier, have done the, until now, unimaginable and hired auteur director Wim Wenders to create a short film for their Spring/Summer 2018 ad campaign.

This is a first for the 72-year-old Wenders, although the Academy Award-winning director (Paris, Texas, Wings of Desire) is well-known for collaborating with other artists. He’s been a director of many U2 music videos and documentaries, he helmed the rock-umentary concert film Willie Nelson at the Teatro, and created a dance homage to deceased choreographer Pina Bausch in the film, Pina.

The Jil Sander film, titled Paused By, is made up of five episodes inspired by film noir crime dramas. Starting in January 2018, the episodes will be released online, along with frames taken from the film to be used as campaign stills. Fashion magazines will debut the new ads in January books.

In the meantime, here’s a little sample of what we can expect from this galvanizing collab between three artists with exquisite taste.
