HBO Doc Series on Serial
The Mysterious Case of Adnan Syed Continues

At 175 million downloads—and counting—the world’s most popular podcast and still considered the best of the genre, is Serial, the 2014 series about the 1999 Baltimore murder of a teenaged girl, Hae Min Lee. Her ex-boyfriend, Adnan Syed, who was arrested and later convicted of the crime, is currently in prison serving a 30-plus year sentence for her slaying.
Produced and narrated by Sarah Koenig, the podcast sought to prove Syed’s innocence, or at least his right to a retrial, which was achieved in 2016. As of today, he is still waiting for that retrial to happen.
In the meantime, we can actually watch the story in the new HBO docu-series, The Case of Adna Syed. Documentary filmmaker Amy Berg, whose 2015 doc, An Open Secret, exposed the sexual abuse of teen actors in Hollywood WAY before it was the now-known blight in the industry, listened to the podcast along with everyone else. Upon its completion, she decided to investigate the story herself. Now four years later, and almost exactly 20 years since Hae Min’s murder, she presents her evidence that Syed deserves that retrial he’s still waiting for, and exoneration for the crime.
You can be the judge and jury in this fascinating case when The Case of Adna Syed arrives on HBO on March 10th.
