As a sexologist, certified sex therapist, and relationship therapist, Dr. Tammy brings 35 years of expertise to her audience as she explores all facets of modern love, sex, and relationships. In addition, PROVOKR continues to share  The Trouble with Sex podcast hosted by Dr. Tammy Nelson. “Everyone has a different perspective on what they think is the trouble with sex. But basically, we just don’t know how to talk to each other about it, about what we want and what we need,” said Dr. Tammy. “I think overall, the whole point of this is to learn how to talk about it, whatever it is.”

This month’s podcast features Dr. Tammy’s discussion with Dr. Laurie Mintz about Orgasm Equality. They discuss our culture’s emphasis on intercourse and how the male orgasm perpetuates pleasure inequality in the bedroom. She says the number-one reason for the orgasm gap is our cultural ignorance of the clitoris.

Mintz, who teaches the psychology of human sexuality to hundreds of college students every year, blames what she calls “inequality in the bedroom” on depictions of “media images of sex,” especially in pornography, and a “cultural over-privileging of male sexuality and a devaluing of female sexuality.” For example, she says most women need direct clitoral stimulation, such as oral sex and touching, to orgasm, but this is rarely depicted. Instead, she says, “We see women having these fast and fabulous orgasms from intercourse alone.”

Becoming “cliterate” will create more excitement between the sheets, “It’s becoming literate in women’s most reliable root to orgasms which is the clitoris,” explains Mintz.
