Parkland: Birth of a Movement

On the first anniversary of the shootings at Parkland, the acclaimed writer and best selling author Dave Cullen released a new book Parkland: Birth of a Movement. He is also the author of Columbine. This book is the story of the extraordinary teenagers who wouldn’t go quietly into mourning but chose action almost immediately. They became activists and fought back against congressional leaders and the NRA. They inspired millions of Americans to join in their movement#never again.
Dave Cullen had witnessed first hand and was among the first to arrive at Columbine and see the carnage nineteen years ago. He suffered from PTSD and vowed never to return to the scene of such a gruesome crime scene. But on March 2918 Cullen did go to Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School. Something told him to go. For this time something different was unfolding quickly. The students were angry and took control of the media coverage to tell their story over and over again.
Parkland: Birth of a Movement tells that story and the story of the students of Marjory Stoneman Douglas leading up to the shootings. What were their lives like before the murders is an amazing portion of the book. A pep rally, planning the spring dance, sports and their social life, friendships and the struggles of being a teenager at their high school leading, day by day, up to that dark and horrifying day, They chose to move forward, to save their lives and other children’s lives by organizing and going into action. And millions of people world wide supported their cause. Just think “never again” as a reality worth fighting for and soon casting our votes for change.
