SEXIEST BOOKS TO MOVIES
9 1/2 Weeks, After, Atonement, Maurice +

Some of the sexiest movies aren’t original works — they come from books. If you’re looking to add some steamy reading to your list, check out these novels then watch the film that accompanies them.
FIFTY SHADES OF GREY
OK, we’ll start in familiar territory. E.L. James’ Fifty Shades of Grey started as Twilight fanfic — hence why it’s set in Seattle. The erotic novel tapped into the BDSM scene. The novel was adapted in 2015 with Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan, who perfectly brought those scenes to life.
DANGEROUS LIAISONS
The 1988 film Dangerous Liaisons is based on a novel by Pierre Choderlos de Laclos that came out 200 years before. The ultra sexy period drama stars Glenn Close, John Malkovich and Michelle Pfeiffer. If you think the film is hot, just wait till you read the French drama.
9 1/2 WEEKS
Yes, possibly the sexiest film ever is based on a memoir. In case it hasn’t sunk in, this is based on a true story. With that in mind, reading 9 ½ Weeks will feel even sexier than the film.
ATONEMENT
Somehow, Atonement feels a lot older than it actually is. The film starring Keira Knightley and James McAvoy is based on a 2001 novel by Ian McEwan. It won the Booker Prize for fiction, so it’s definitely worth the read.
MAURICE
E.M. Forster always gave us some fo the best gay love stories, full of passion and emotion. Maurice is no different. The book was published posthumously in 1971 by his biggest confidants. The book was adapted in 1987 with Hugh Grant and James Wilby in the lead roles.
HENRY AND JUNE
Henry and June starring Uma Thurman and Fred Ward is one of our favorite adaptations. The novel of the same name was pulled from the diaries of author Anaïs Nin. Given its impressive aggregation and steamy sex scenes, this one should be toward the top of your list.
AFTER
Fifty Shades isn’t the only fanfic to get the novel then movie treatment. Originally written for fanfic sites, Anna Todd penned a sexy love affair where she goes off to college and meets, get this, Harry Styles. The two strike up a love affair. The movie adaptation was released in 2019, but Harry was changed to Hardin while all of the other details remained the same. The novel was so successful that it became a trilogy and all three have been adapted.
MY POLICEMAN
Speaking of Harry Styles, the popstar booked another movie this year, and it’s an adaptation of Bethan Roberts’ 2012 novel My Policeman. The novel follows policeman Tom Burgess in 1957. A museum curator, Patrick, and a schoolteacher, Marion, each fall in love with Tom. But due to the social expectations of the time, Tom must marry Marion. The movie is filming right now, with Styles playing Tom, David Dawson starring as Patrick and The Crown’s Emma Corin assuming the role of Marion. It’s going to be a hot one, PROVOKRs.
