The Beautiful Ones

Prince’s Unfinished Memoir Comes to Life

BY: Elizabeth Hazard

Just mere weeks before his shocking, untimely death, Prince had announced that he’d begun working on his memoir. This last month it was announced that The Beautiful Ones would be published this upcoming October by Random House. Of course, with the unfortunate passing of the artist, the autobiography will be a reimagined version of what Prince might have envisioned.

Prince’s estate will oversee the work of the memoir, which will begin with the early pages he himself collaborated on with the writer Dan Piepenbring of the Paris Review. The book will include Prince’s own writing, never-before seen photos, original edits for “Purple Rain” and other mementos from the singer’s estate. The memoir will tell the story of Prince from an early age, his music career and rise to unfathomable, world-wide stardom.

The book’s editor Chris Jackson spoke to The New York Times about the memoir and the singer’s passing. “His death was an unfathomable loss, but this book — full of writing from his own hand and images that he carefully preserved at Paisley Park — is a beautiful tribute to his life.”

A beautiful tribute to a beautiful talent gone too soon. The Beautiful Ones will hit bookstands October 29, 2019.
