WALLER-BRIDGE’S WRITINGS
Taylor Swift Is A Fan And So Are We

Author/Actress/Playwright/Director Phoebe Waller-Bridge is Killing it. Literally. The creator of the BBC’s smash success Killing Eve returns this week with the second season of her Amazon hit Fleabag.
The dramedy is a series based off the one-woman play the 33-year-old wrote in 2013. The title character is nameless and only referred to as Fleabag, who is deep in the grief of losing both her mother and best friend. She uses sex to numb her feelings. Through Fleabag, Waller-Bridge does what she does best and presents a female character with multiple layers.
“My original inspiration was to say the things that I feel like women normally only say in the shadows,” she said in an interview with Broadway World (the actress recently wrapped a sold-out run of her one-woman play version of Fleabag in NYC.)
The creative genius is regularly compared to Lena Dunham—the British version of Lena Dunham that is. She writes roles for women with depth, intelligence, humor and wit. No wonder she has award-winning actresses playing these roles. Oscar winner Olivia Colman plays the lead character’s stepmother in Fleabag. Sandra Oh won a Golden Globe for her leading role in Killing Eve.
Taylor Swift is a fan. “I’m really obsessed with Phoebe Waller-Bridge. She makes you crack up, shocks you, and breaks your heart all in the span of a few minutes in that show,” Swift said about Fleabag.
She’s not the only fan. James Bond himself Daniel Craig even requested she be brought in to bring more humor to the writing. So she’ll be adding her sought-after style to the next James Bond film—the 25th installment of the legendary spy franchise in fact. No doubt Waller-Bridge will even put her spin on the film’s upcoming iteration of the iconic Bond Girl. Perhaps with more offbeat humor and sass?
Beyond James Bond, what else is next for this female force to reckon with Phoebe Waller-Bridge? She has been signed to executive produce a new HBO series titled Run, which is about a woman given a chance to reinvent her life as she knows it. There’s no doubt this too will be a success.
