PATTINSON LANDS BIG ROLES
PROVOKR's Favorite Leading Man Is Batman

Robert Pattinson is all set to play the new Batman but, for now, we know very little and it’s all a big secret. He will also be starring in Christopher Nolan’s upcoming espionage thriller Tenet that’s set for release in 2020. With Michael Caine and Kenneth Branagh as co-stars, this is a stellar cast. These highly anticipated projects are sure to be a wonderful surprise for fans of the handsome Brit who became an overnight sensation with 2008’s vampire love story, Twilight. Alongside Kristen Stewart as his true love, Pattinson nearly drove young girls crazy with his sexy, slightly eerie onscreen presence (they even had a real life love affair—she’s gay now). He was a vampire for the aughties: unlike Klaus Kinski or Bela Lugosi, Pattinson was a heartthrob of whom teenagers hung images on their wall.
After the massive success of the Twilight film series (there are five films), Pattinson has proven he can take artier, quirkier roles. He became a sort of darling for David Cronenberg and appeared in his 2012 Cosmopolis (based on the Don DeLillo novel—he also co-wrote the screenplay) about a young, sociopathic billionaire who rides around in a limousine while encountering those who wish to kill him. 2014’s Maps to the Stars was a slightly more commercial film (with stars such as Julianne Moore and John Cusack) that depicted the vapid and, at times, sheer evil of Hollywood. With R Patts as a chauffeur, he falls for the strange and mousy Mia Wasikowska but also has a naughty romp with Julianne Moore’s aging starlet character in the backseat of a limo. In typical Cronenberg form, both of these films pushed the envelope, so to speak and were filled with graphic sexuality, violence and language. As a former heartthrob who dazzled millions of girls and young women around the world with his PG-13 charm, Pattinson proved that he could perform in grittier, scarier roles and this makes him incredibly sexy.
2008’s Little Ashes was a not-so-successful film about Salvador Dalí, Luis Buñuel and Federico García Lorca. This sounded like a sure-fire idea: three of the greatest talents of the 20th century all depicted in one film. Unfortunately, the film didn’t get the appropriate recognition, but Pattinson was incredibly handsome as the Spanish surrealist. The film suggests there was a love affair between Dalí and Lorca (played by Javier Beltrán) but this has never been proven (although there has been plenty of speculation). Regardless of what really happened, the film is filled with steamy kisses shared by Pattinson and Beltrán (complete with a passionate scene in a swimming pool at night, no less). Most recently, Robert Pattinson can be seen in a new fantasy/horror film that just premiered at the Cannes Film Festival. Alongside Willem Dafoe, The Lighthouse was shot in black and white and appears to be a dark, off-beat must for Pattinson fans. It’s good to know that he hasn’t lost his edge and, from the looks of it, will be giving us strange and sexy performances for years to come.
