SEBASTIAN STAN SHAPESHIFTER
Marvel Hero To Indie Darling
He might have risen to fame as Marvel’s Bucky Barnes, a.k.a. The Winter Soldier, but Sebastian Stan has made a name for himself as an indie star, choosing interesting roles that get people talking.
Stan got his foothold as an actor in the TV world, with memorable roles on Gossip Girl and Once Upon a Time, but Marvel’s Captain America: The First Avenger made him a star. While Stan continued to show up as the Winter Soldier in the MCU, he also chose smaller roles in talked-about projects, like Logan Lucky, I, Tonya, and The Devil All The Time.

2024 was when this work really began to pay off — dark comedy A Different Man and Trump biopic The Apprentice earned him critical acclaim and several awards, including an Oscar nom for The Apprentice and a Golden Globe for A Different Man.
His latest project, Fjord, continues that streak of unique indie movies guaranteed to score a place on next year’s nominations lists. In this based-on-a-true-story family drama, Stan plays Mihai Gheorghiu, patriarch of an immigrant Romanian family who are facing an intense investigation from Child Services. Oscar-nominee Renate Reinsve plays his wife. The movie won the Palme d’Or at this year’s Cannes Film Festival, and is already garnering tons of Oscar buzz.
So what’s next for Stan? Another turn as Bucky Barnes in the next Marvel installment, Avengers: Doomsday, and a debut into a different comic book universe. Stan is set to play district attorney Harvey Dent in The Batman: Part II, currently filming.

With one foot in the world of blockbusters, and another in independent films, Stan’s proven he can do it all. We can’t wait to see where Stan goes from here.
