THE UNFORGIVABLE
Bold & Unforgettable Sandra Bullock

Sandra Bullock stars in The Unforgivable as Ruth Slater, a woman trying to rebuild her life after being recently released from prison where she served time for committing a violent crime. Back in society, she finds herself in a world that refuses to allow her to move on from her past, she decides to go on a search for her estranged younger sister. Nora Fingscheidt directed The Unforgivable from a script written by Peter Craig, Hillary Seitz, and Courtenay Miles. It is an adaptation of Sally Wainwright’s British miniseries Unforgiven.

The Unforgivable has a stacked cast that, in addition to Bullock, includes Viola Davis, Vincent D’Onofrio, Jon Bernthal, Richard Thomas, Linda Emond, Aisling Franciosi, and Rob Morgan. A trailer for the film was recently released and in it we learn that Ruth spent twenty years in prison for a crime. We eventually learn that not only was she found guilty of committing a murder, she murdered a cop, and it was not an accident. However, we do not learn why she committed the crime, from the flashbacks we are treated to in the trailer, it likely would not be out of the question to think it had something to do with wanting to protect her much younger sister.

An adaptation of Unforgiven has been in the works since 2010. Originally Christopher McQuarrie was hired to adapt the script and direct it, with Angelina Jolie set to star as Ruth. In 2019 Bullock signed on to replace Jolie and also to produce the film, Fingscheidt was hired to replace McQuarrie as director, and Netflix signed on to distribute the film.
The Unforgivable will have a limited theatrical release on November 24, 2021 before it is released on Netflix on December 10, 2021.
