Disco is a musical art that spans generations. Music revivalists like Daft Punk have reapplied the 20th-century disco sound to 21st-century songs like “Get Lucky.” Artists like Nile Rodgers inspired original disco music with tracks like “I Feel You.” The disco resurgence is on–pushing leading artists like Justin Timberlake and Rihanna to create popular dance bangers with strong disco melodies.

In this week’s PROVOKR music list, I’ll be reeling off some of the hottest tunes that use disco while defining their current brand. Artists like The Weeknd and Justin Timberlake are creating neo-disco sounds. The Weeknd’s “Blinding Lights” is a quintessential example of new-age disco now streaming on the radio. Rihanna’s breakout hit, “Don’t Stop the Music,” is also a standout. Rihanna’s hybridized disco sound was at the forefront of the 2000s sound.

Meg Myers‘ new disco revival, “Running Up That Hill,” is a remake of an old hit by Kate Bush. The Myers’ track is fresh and brings an indie new-age feel. Moreover, Harry StylesAdore You,” is a hot track with a disco baseline that excites listeners. This joint puts together an old school feel with flashy vocals and makes a terrific fusion hit. All these people have styles which benefit from the hybrid unique voice that disco brings.
