It was an unexpected road to the top, but she’s finally made it — Addison Rae is pop music’s newest princess, winning critical acclaim and thousands of fans with music that takes us back to the 00s.

Rae rose to fame as a TikTok dancer, which she parlayed into an acting career (Netflix’s He’s All That and the Eli Roth-directed holiday horror flick Thanksgiving). However, Rae had her eye on a different prize: a music career. When songs from her planned debut leaked before its release, Rae thought that dream was dead, but instead, something amazing happened — the music took off, and thousands were streaming.

The singer picked up some cultural cachet when she delivered a pitch-perfect guest verse on Charli XCX’s “von dutch” remix, so when single “Diet Pepsi” dropped in 2024, Rae had all eyes on her.

The slinky, certified-Platinum single, detailing car rides with a lover in a “cross gold chain,” would go on to be streamed over 650 million times, and lay the groundwork for debut album Addison, which peaked at #4 on the Billboard chart and spawned several fan-favorite singles, including “Headphones On” and “Fame Is A Gun,” which has since been certified Gold.

Rae’s music is introspective and dream-like, with lyrics that see her ruminate on everything from her fraught relationship with her father, her worries about a future that seems to be coming faster than ever, and her constant — and cheerful — pursuit of fame.

Even more noteworthy is Rae’s musical team; the singer crafted her album tracks with female writer-producers Luka Kloser and Elvira Anderfjärd, making it one of the exceedingly-rare musical projects with no men in the writing room.

Rae has spun social media significance into superstar gold, with no plans to slow down. She’s currently in Sweden, cooking up her next project.
