Jack White Is Supreme
The Sublime Fuzzed Out Funk Of Take Me Back
Jack White is back with his first solo song in four years, “Taking Me Back.”
Since his electrifying SNL performance last year, fans have been clamoring for more from the artist; namely, a return to his hard rock roots.
“Taking Me Back” is a rock song, with snarling guitars and a pounding drumbeat.
The song’s lyrics detail White’s fighting spirit. “When you listen to mystics // as you lay at your picnics // you’re taking me back” he sings, before launching into the chorus: “I’m alone // but not for long.”
The single was produced by White and recorded at his Third Man Studios in Nashville, Tennessee. He also plays all the instruments heard on the track and provides all vocals.
“Taking Me Back” can also be heard in the just-released trailer for the video game Call of Duty: Vanguard. Clips from the game are seen in the music video White released with the song.
He dropped another version of the song along with it, aptly named “Taking Me Back (Gently).” This rendition has an old-school country feel, with fiddles and a chugging bass line reminiscent of a Johnny Cash song.
There is no word yet on whether this is a stand-alone track or part of a bigger project, but I’ve got my fingers crossed for an album!
