MEET DEV HYNES
The Multi-Talented Musician Behind Blood Orange
Meet Dev Hynes, the singer, songwriter, composer, and producer behind some of your favorite pop star’s biggest hits — and a star performer himself, under the pseudonym Blood Orange.
Born in London, Hynes began making music professionally in 2004 with dance-punk band The Test Icicles. A few years later, he relocated to New York and began working as a solo artist under the name Lightspeed Champion, and then Blood Orange.

As Blood Orange, Hynes has released major hits like “Champagne Coast,” “Charcoal Baby,” and “You’re Not Good Enough.” However, working on his own music wasn’t enough for the artist. Hynes has collaborated with some of the biggest names in the industry, including Britney Spears, Lorde, Blondie, Haim, FKA Twigs, and Mariah Carey.

Some of those collaborators repaid the favor with his latest release, 2025’s Essex Honey, which features co-writing credits from Lorde and Caroline Polachek, as well as contributions from Daniel Caesar, Amandla Stenberg, and more.
Hynes has also made a name for himself in the classical world, working on piano etudes with composer Phillip Glass, writing scores for art pieces, films, and the Broadway show Job.
