No one knows how to get tongues wagging like Miley Cyrus. With a new single, a name-change, and a highly-anticipated album on the way, Miley is preparing for another go-round at the top of the pop charts.
Miley made waves when she dropped “Bass Persuades,” a bouncing electro-pop ode to letting it all go on the dance floor — and dropped her last name on her social media handles. There’s no word yet on whether the name change is official (she’s still listed as Miley Cyrus on Spotify), but it’s a bold move from an artist who knows how to get people talking.
“Bass Persuades” refines Miley’s pop sensibilities, filing off rock edge for something slinky and streamlined, and shares a message that seems more important than ever: get off your phone and on the floor!
“Spin it for a minute, make it all disappear,” she croons over the relentless beat and twanging synths. “If we ain’t movin’, baby, baby, why are we here?”
The song comes with a video that shows the singer navigating a dark bar full of shirtless and leather-clad men, culminating in a dance number on the street, awash in the glow of neon lights and wet pavement.
In a statement about the album, also titled Bass Persuades, Miley shared, “Music takes hold of us. We feel it, sing it, sometimes dance to it, let it out and carry on. It is powerful, vulnerable, sweet and strong. Heart full, heartache, every part of life in between. That’s what the title means to me.”
The 10-track album includes collabs with Model/Actriz and Miike Snow’s Andrew Wyatt, and promises to be a project full of songs designed to get listeners out of their heads and into their bodies.
Miley is celebrating the album’s release with two shows at Los Angeles’ Hollywood Bowl in October — a major deal, seeing as how the pop star hasn’t toured in years, and makes public performances few and far between. However, there might be another big show coming up; Miley is rumored to be a Coachella headliner next year.
