Striking choreography, an electro-indie sound, and incredible cinematography — there’s a reason why Gener8ion’s “STORM” is being touted as 2026’s video of the year.

Gener8ion is an alias of French producer Surkin, and he roped in Swedish rapper Yung Lean for “STORM,” which, technically, is a dual single called “STORM Pt. I & II” and is taken from the Love & Tears album, Gener8ion’s first.

It’s been getting a ton of deserved buzz of late, receiving 4 nominations at the 2026 VMAs: Video of the Year, Best Choreography, Best Direction, and Best Long Form Video.

That shouldn’t be a surprise; one glance at the video is enough to reveal what an impressive achievement it is. The song is super-contemporary — elements of the Sleaford Mods and Fontaines D.C. see electro-indie melodies and a solid beat blend with gritty authenticity and storytelling.

But the video elevates the whole thing. Taking place in a British all boys boarding school, there’s a “flash mob” feel to the intro, with a bunch of the students lying on the floor outside. Yung Lean, playing the role of one such student, embarks on a campaign of terror and destruction through the school, dragging an incorrigible lad with him. Illicit substances are smoked, fights are fought, fire extinguishers are fired, etc.

The choreography with the huge group of students is incredible, and quite intense. The video ends up having a Scum feel (the gritty and violent 1979 British film set in a borstal, or juvenile detention center). It’s hard-hitting, attention-grabbing, and quite brilliant.

Romain Gavras directed the video, while the choreography comes courtesy of Damien Jalet.
