Neve Wild Thing

You saw her most recently on the big screen in Scream 5, the 5th movie in the Scream franchise, but Neve Campbell is no newbie to the silver screen. Born in Ontario, Canada in 1973 Campbell has created a name for herself as both a scream queen as well as a sex symbol for her body of work. After moving to the States she was cast in the TV series Party of Five, on which she starred for six seasons. She then decides to branch out into film and was cast as one of the leading roles in the teen witch drama The Craft. The film went on to become a breakout hit and has since gained status as a cult classic. It is also what brought her to the attention of horror legend Wes Craven who cast her as the leading role in his horror parody Scream. A role she has reprised in all 5 films in the franchise, and that propelled her to the status of scream queen.
And of course, we did mention that in addition to being a scream queen she is also considered a sex symbol, so let’s dive into the roles that bestowed her with that honor. While it can be argued that her role in The Craft started her on the path to sex icon status, it is really her role in the erotic thriller Wild Things that cemented her as such. The erotic thriller follows Sam (Matt Dillon), a school guidance counselor who gets accused of rape by teen debutante Kelly (Denise Richards). Soon Suzie (Campbell) comes forward with her own accusations against the seemingly affable counselor. When Detective Duquette (Kevin Bacon) starts to investigate, the case proves to be much more complicated than he first thought. As the title might imply, the movie is absolutely wild. Yes, it is full of twists and turns, and just writing about it doesn’t do it justice. It goes for broke in every way possible and it is a truly fun watch. And yes, as any good erotic drama, the movie is quite erotic, in fact, Bacon actually shows the audience his bacon, but this is an article about Neve Campbell and not Kevin Bacon, as much as we appreciate him dropping trou.
Anyway, one of the most infamous scenes in the movie is when we learn that supposed enemies Kelly and Suzie are actually not enemies, quite the opposite in fact. Yes, we are saying they are lovers, and in one notable pool side scene the two strip down and get it on. That’s not their only sexy scene together in the movie, but that’s a) the most famous one and b) the one that gives away the least amount of plot twists. Yeah, yeah, can you really spoil a movie that came out over 20 years ago? Honestly, if you haven’t already seen the whole movie, you deserve to go in with as few spoilers as possible for the best viewing experience.
