ALEXANDER SKARSGÅRD RULES
5 Best Roles and 2 Upcoming Films
Today we consume so much content through tv and streaming services that there is bound to be a great actor that has been overlooked. This description fits Alexander Skarsgård perfectly. His career dates back to 1984 when he was just a child, but most people probably became aware of him when he became a series regular on HBO’s True Blood as Eric Northman from 2008 until the show ended in 2014.
This wasn’t his first big mainstream role. In 2001, he appeared in the popular film Zoolander alongside Ben Stiller, Owen Wilson, and Will Ferrell. After he joined True Blood, he starred in the music video for Lady Gaga’s song Paparazzi playing The Boyfriend. HBO must have really liked his performance Eric Northman as he was brought back to star in several more series for the network. His best work is on the dark side which he plays incredibly well.
He appeared on an episode of Eastbound & Down in 2013 and as a series regular on Pretty Big Lies from 2017 to 2019. In 2018, he starred in the AMC miniseries The Little Drummer Girl which also starred Florence Pugh and Michael Shannon. These roles were great for Skarsgård as he probably didn’t have to transform his body, which is exactly what he did when he played Tarzan in The Legend of Tarzan in 2016.
To prepare for this role, he went on an extreme diet which consisted of 135g of protein, 70g of fat, and 200g of carbs. His most recent roles have been less intensive. He played Randall Flagg in The Stand, an adaptation of a Stephen King novel, and will star in an upcoming episode of Succession this month. He has 2 films in post production – the epic viking thriller, The Northman, which reunites him with Nicole Kidman and Infinity Pool, a sci-fi thriller from director Brandon Cronenberg. Will he return in the new True Blood series? Skarsgard has been a busy man in Hollywood recently and it looks like he will continue to be for years to come.
