AMERICAN HORROR ’84
Emma Roberts, Billie Lourd, Gus Kenworthy + more!

It’s almost that time of year again, American Horror Story fans. The Ryan Murphy-created FX series is back for its ninth season titled 1984, which will premiere September 18. The cast was just announced on Instagram in a very ’80s-inspired tribute to the slasher genre, featuring the naive characters in what seems to be a summer camp.
OG regulars Sarah Paulson and Evan Peters won’t return for this season, but the show will bring back other familiar faces along with fierce newcomers. Read on to meet the impressive cast:
EMMA ROBERTS
Emma Roberts should be very familiar to any American Horror Story fan. The niece of acting legend Julia Roberts has been on the show since season three’s Coven, which featured her as the not-so-nice witch Madison Montgomery. Roberts has become a staple of the show, so she is for sure going to get plenty of screen time this season.
BILLIE LOURD
Billie Lourd has definitely found her footing as a Hollywood legacy. The daughter of the late Carrie Fisher appeared in Murphy’s now-cancelled Scream Queens, which led her to a role on AHS. Lourd recently starred in Olivia Wilde’s coming-of-age comedy Booksmart.
GUS KENWORTHY
Gus Kenworthy is new to the acting biz, but not to the industry. The Olympic freestyle skier (who has a silver medal) is the son of Peter Kenworthy, the executive director of Mountainfilm Film Festival out of Telluride, Colorado. The openly gay actor is a literal hot topic in the media, and this is likely to propel him in a whole other realm of celebrity.
CODY FERN
2018 was a big year for Cody Fern. His first major role was in Murphy’s other anthology series American Crime Story. He was in the Assassination of Gianni Versace season. Then he appeared on Netflix’s House of Cards and American Horror Story: Apocalypse. Hailing from Australia, Fern is likely to bring the same energy he exuded in his AHS debut.
LESLIE GROSSMAN
It’s hard to name a show Leslie Grossman hasn’t appeared on. The actress is known for her seemingly sarcastic delivery and that sweet face. 1984 marks her third season of American Horror Story, her first being Cult.
MATTHEW MORRISON
1984 will be Matthew Morrison’s first American Horror Story season, but he’s no stranger Murphy’s productions. Morrison played Will Schuester in Glee, which ran for six seasons. It was a little shocking to see him in the cast teaser for AHS, but we love it nonetheless.
ANGELICA ROSS
Shortly after Angelica Ross’ character on Pose (yes, another Murphy show) exited, the cast for 1984 was announced. And guess who was in it. Ross. The star shared the news with a powerful statement, in which she noted that she is one of the only transgender women of color with reoccurring roles on two network shows.
DERON HORTON
DeRon Horton is just getting started with his acting career. Horton is best known for his role as Lionel Higgins in Netflix’s Dear White People. 1984 is his first collab with Murphy and company, but it’s likely it won’t be his last.
ZACH VILLA
This season is full of newcomers. Zach Villa will join the cast for the first time. Villa has previously held a three-episode role on PROVOKR favorite Shameless as Dax. He has also starred on Bordertown.
JOHN CARROLL LYNCH
Remember Twisty The Clown? Yea, he was played by John Carroll Lynch, who returns for 1984. The long-time actor’s character is the only one we have a true hunch about. It appears he will play the killer in the upcoming season, and it’s sure to be a scary one.
