Gone are the white-washed ways of the traditional period drama as Shonda Rhimes ushers in a modern Regency-era oasis full of sex, lies, and scandal. With her first production for Netflix, Bridgerton, the Grey’s Anatomy and Scandal creator, looks to turn up the heat based on the Julia Quinn romance novels.

Though Rhimes is serving as an executive producer, she handed the showrunner role over to producer and Rhimes’ collaborator Chris Van Dusen, who is out to shake up the genre. “Period shows tend to be a little conservative and a little traditional,” he told The Hollywood Reporter. “We’re not making your grandmother’s period show.”

Instead, the cast is probably the most diverse anyone has seen in the period drama genre, unsurprising with Rhimes’ name attached to it. People of all races are in the main cast and people of varying gender identities and sexual orientations.

Based on the trailer — watch it by clicking the image up top — the scandalous series will be more than a guilty pleasure to fill the Downton Abbey voids in our hearts. At the center of it all is a gossip column written by Lady Whistleblower. The legendary Julie Andrews narrates the character. Lady Whistleblower lurks in the shadows of every situation, capturing the juiciest of secrets only to divulge them in print. What makes her stand out among others in her trade is that she prints everyone’s names, leading to a web of insanely intertwined lies.

So here’s what you can expect, PROVOKRs: An insanely hot cast having a lot of sex and getting mixed up in each other’s business. What more could anyone ask for?
