Mike Flanagan Adapts Stephen King Classic
Stephen King’s Carrie is one of the most iconic horror stories of all time, following a sheltered, bullied teenager as she comes to grips with her latent psychic abilities. The story has been adapted into several films and even a broadway musical. Now, it returns once again; this time as a show streaming on Amazon Prime Video.
Amazon Prime’s Carrie, directed by horror veteran Mike Flanagan, will follow the same plot as the original story but expand upon its world and characters. Like the 2013 film adaptation, it will take place in a modern day setting. The series stars Summer H. Howell as protagonist Carrie White with her mother Margaret being played by Samantha Sloan. Scream star Matthew Lillard will portray Principal Gayle while star of 2022’s Prey, Amber Midthunder will play Carrie’s gym teacher, Miss Desjardin.
According to Mike Flanagan, the show will explore the same themes as the original story, such as bullying and school violence, while updating them for a modern audience. One person who remains impressed by it is Stephen King himself. King posted on Threads, “Mike Flanagan’s version of CARRIE is brilliant. What it has to say about social media is shocking and true.”
Carrie premieres on Prime Video on October 7, 2026.
