Emmy Rossum Heats It Up
Our favorite actress has made her return to TV and we could not be more ecstatic. Emmy Rossum, who played Fiona in Shameless, has taken on our favorite TV role this year in the incredible show Furious. Let’s just say we’d gladly watch her in anything.
Furious marks her first TV series in 3 years since The Crowded Room in 2023. In the series, Rossum plays FBI agent Alice Black on the hunt for a female serial killer (portrayed by Lola Petticrew) who kills men entangled in webs of abuse. It blurs the lines of right and wrong. It totally reminds us of another favorite series, Killing Eve. It’s a cat-and-mouse game that had us captivated from the beginning.
Rossum is more than just the lead actress in the series. It was her idea to get Furious started up. Rossum was on the lookout for a role she could bring to life. Inspiration struck when she watched the 1987 movie Black Widow starring Debra Winger and Theresa Russell.
“I was looking for an idea. I was looking for something that would be fertile ground or give me a character that was as rich, or had the potential to be as rich and as exciting, as I found Fiona Gallagher,” she told Backstage. “I was really looking for something that I could sink my teeth into. When I saw ‘Black Widow,’ which starred Deborah Winger and Theresa Russell, who I’d worked with on a movie called ‘Passionada’ when I was 14, I thought it was a really good skeleton. It’s kind of a strange film, kind of a cult film.”
And she definitely has sunk her teeth into her role in Furious. She produced the series through her production company, Composition Eight, and it has already been renewed for a second season. It’s so popular that Rossum could easily be on her way to her first Emmy nomination (which is crazy, considering it’s literally her name!)
Emmy Rossum is fierce in the series. She is strong, calculated, and brings a level of depth to the performance that deserves all of the recognition. Where Fiona was loud and explosive, Alice is internal and conflicted. Rossum delivers an insane performance. We can’t wait to see what she does with this newfound and incredibly deserved attention.
