While it’s all still rumors, Slow Horses fans would be thrilled to see Jack Lowden grow from River Cartwright to James Bond. With on-screen boss/co-star Gary Oldman as one of the loudest cheerleaders, those fans are in good company.

An acclaimed and accomplished theatre actor in addition to his film and TV work, proud Scot Lowden would be the first Olivier-award winning Bond if he ends up cast as the legendary spy. In the meantime, there are now six full seasons of the spectacular Slow Horses on Apple TV, where Lowden is part of a group of “reject” spies at Slough House “led” by boss Jackson Lamb (Oldman)..and Lamb is a truly reluctant office head. The ensemble also includes Rosalind Eleazar, set to further breakout herself in A24’s upcoming Misty Green.

In addition to potentially being cast as 007, Lowden will play Mr. Fitzwilliam Darcy opposite Emma Corrin’s Elizabeth Bennet in Netflix’s Pride and Prejudice premiering December 3. Lowden will also be seen opposite fellow-Mr. Darcy Colin Firth in AppleTV’s Berlin Noir series, produced by Tom Hanks’ Playtone, currently in post production. Other previous Lowden performances to check out include Christopher Nolan’s epic Dunkirk and the underrated wrestling based-on-true-life family story Fighting with my Family as brother to Florence Pugh.

While he has definitely shown range in credits, Lowden has also undoubtedly mastered playing spies and various law enforcement officials, and James Bond would allow him to reach the ultimate level of secret agent portrayal. For all the times viewers have to suffer through River’s consistently terrible decision-making, being prone to mishaps and generally horrible instincts getting to see Lowden as Bond would be like getting to see River Cartwright all grown up, smooth and succeeding. And while River has been referred to as oozing asexuality, James Bond is known for…the opposite of that.

In terms of reel/real life crossing over, Lowden met wife Saoirse Ronan co-starring in Mary Queen of Scots and also worked together on the Ronan-led Outrun which Lowden produced. The couple is private — they married and had a child quietly, and instead give the world wonderful insight like how over Bond rumors, at home they are more worried about making sure the dog is walked (though appreciative Oldman thinks that of Jack). More reasons to root for him and them as Ronan is just phenomenally talented, too.

Even if he may not be focused on the Bond rumors, Lowden would be an amazing Bond — but for now, check out Slow Horses!
