Joseph Gordon-Levitt is making his long-awaited return to TV with the limited series Mr. Corman. The former child actor got his big break on NBC’s 3rd Rock From The Sun, which launched him into a decades-long film career.

But Gordon-Levitt isn’t just starring in the AppleTV+ original; he’s the producer, creator, and director of the platform called a “heartfelt” venture. The series follows a fifth-grade music teacher who wants to be a musician. Unfortunately, his life hasn’t quite panned out the way he thought it would. His ex-fiancé, Megan, moved out and his best friend, Victor, moved in. Those roles are filled by some familiar faces: Juno Temple, who plays Keeley in Ted Lasso, and Arturo Castro, known for his role on Broad City.

From the outside, the series seems semi-autobiographical for Gordon-Levitt. Like his character, he grew up in the San Fernando Valley and pursued a career in music. Gordon-Levitt runs a media site called HitRecord and has put out a slew of cover songs for those who don’t know. Not to mention he has provided songs on soundtracks to movies he has been in.

“Mr. Corman is probably the most distilled expression of myself that I’ve ever managed to achieve,” Gordon-Levitt told Entertainment Weekly. “I always wanted it to come from a heartfelt place. My favorite shows on TV, that I really gravitate to, are ones that really come from the heart. Mr. Corman is my go at that, and sometimes it’s funny and sometimes it’s sad and sometimes it’s weird and sometimes it’s beautiful, but it’s always really heartfelt.”

The series is set to be released on August 6, so expect a trailer soon.

That’s not all Gordon-Levitt has in the works, though. He is set to voice Jiminy Cricket in Robert Zemeckis’ upcoming live-action remake of Pinocchio. Then he’ll star in a series about a Silicon Valley startup. Perhaps his biggest forthcoming project is Wingmen, which he will direct. The musical about two pilots will mark the first feature film he directed since 2013’s Don Jon.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s career is impressive by any standard. We can’t wait to see what he does next.
