LOVE & ANARCHY
A Netflix Series You Need to Binge
People love the new Swedish series, Love & Anarchy. It hit Netflix about a week ago, and if you’re not already watching, you need to sample it. Created by Lisa Langseth, the story bends the rules of an office romance and comedy. The show offers insight into the lives of a smart and sexy woman, Sofie, and a sneaky young intern, Max. Their interaction starts as blackmail but turns into something more. Both characters fall for each other and the show’s setting is Stockholm.
Sofie, played by the beautiful Ida Engvoll, works for the publishing house Lund & Lagerstedt. She is an office powerhouse. At best, Sofie seems annoyed with Max, played by breakout actor Björn Mosten, an IT intern and a bit of an immature mess.
Despite their vast differences in ambition and work ethic, they cross paths as Max’s noisy drilling interrupts Sofie’s big boardroom speech, in which she claims that her direction will save the future of the publishing house. Sofie scolds Max, and he decides to drill later. Despite Sofie’s high profile job and ideal homelife- married with two children- she is not nearly as together as it would appear on the surface. This ‘Boss Lady’ regularly watches porn at the office to keep everything balanced. As you can imagine, Max catches her in the act, and this is where the blackmail starts.
The blackmail eventually becomes a game of adult style Dare or Dare. There are moments where the viewer can get lost in the silliness and hilarity of this highly inappropriate workplace flirtation, making the show very binge-worthy. But as the episodes go on, and the ramifications of the dares bleed into Sophie’s work life and marriage, the show evolves into something far more intriguing.
Love & Anarchy gets an 8/10 on Rotten Tomatoes, and the viewers agree: If you aren’t binging this Swedish dramedy, you need to be!
