NINE PERFECT STRANGERS + LSD
A Creepy Nicole Kidman + Michael Shannon, Samara Weaving +

Creator David E. Kelly loves to adapt twisted novels and put Nicole Kidman in them. Yeah, that’s a reference to Big Little Lies and The Undoing. His latest venture — this time for Hulu — takes Liane Moriarty (author of Big Little Lies) and brings its zany plot to life. It’s about nine people who attend this healing retreat, but, by the looks of the trailer, have they wandered into a cult? Who knows? We know that some of the nine strangers are played by some truly unique talents. Get ready for your heads to spin.
LUKE EVANS AS LARS
Oh, hey, Luke Evans. The actor has turned to TV performances in recent years, and it’s a welcome surprise to see him in this lineup. The Alienist actor plays Lars, a “spa-junkie divorce lawyer.” It sounds like his character may not have known what he’s getting into. That’ll be fun to see.
SAMARA WEAVING AS JESSICA
While her film roles seem to go the gory route, Samara Weaving’s TV characters seem less bloody. After appearing in Ryan Murphy’s Netflix series Hollywood last year, Weaving stars as Jessica, a woman obsessed with plastic surgery who wins the lottery. My guess is the two go hand-in-hand.
REGINA HALL AS CARMEL
To date, Regina Hall’s most notable acting credits have been Girls Trip and Black Monday. This series could give her the chance to stand out among a group of talented actors. She plays Carmel, a single mother of four left by her husband for a younger woman. Watch her performance in this — it will be legendary.
NICOLE KIDMAN AS MASHA
Nicole Kidman is the perfect person to play the seemingly crazy owner and guide of this experience-based retreat. She brings the right level of trustworthy creepiness that even you wouldn’t care if she held you hostage for a while.
MICHAEL SHANNON AS NAPOLEON
If there is any indication that this show will be good, it’s because Michael Shannon chose to be in it. His TV appearances don’t come around very often, and when they do, they’re amazing (Boardwalk Empire, Waco, The Little Drummer Girl). In Nine Perfect Strangers, he plays Napoleon, one half of a married couple who lost one of their twin sons.
MELISSA MCCARTHY AS FRANCES
Melissa McCarthy first joined the project as a producer but sitting behind the camera wasn’t enough. She takes on the role of Frances, a romance novelist. We have a feeling she is going to provide some much-needed comedy to a weighty drama.
The rest of the cast includes Manny Jacinto as Yao; Melvin Gregg as Ben; Asher Keddie as Heather; Grace Van Patten as Zoe; Tiffany Boone as Delilah; and Bobby Cannavale as Tony.
