STEAMY STREAMING: RETURNING SERIES

The Crown, Big Little Lies, The Rain + Two More!

The hardest part of bingeing a show isn’t when it’s over — it’s waiting until the next season comes around. For some shows, that break can seem like pure agony, and it’s even worse when it spans the course of a few years. It’s not easy being a binge-watcher, but it’s rewarding when the series finally come back. Here are five returning series that we can’t wait to see this year:

THE RAIN

The Danish-language show took the world by storm (pun intended) last year with its apocalyptic storyline. A group of people fend for their life in the post-apocalyptic society where rain has poisoned everyone. The fate of the show was uncertain after the first season, but it will return in May.

THE CROWN

As The Crown moves forward in Queen Elizabeth’s reign, the actors and actresses portraying the real people are bound to change. That’s what is happening in season three. After her supreme performance as Queen Anne in The Favourite, Olivia Colman will step into the position of the current Queen of England. At her side is Helena Bonham Carter as Princess Margaret and Tobias Menzies as Phillip, Duke of Edinburgh. There is no set release date for The Crown yet, but it’s definitely coming this year.

PEAKY BLINDERS

Ugh, who doesn’t love Cillian Murphy? His role in BBC’s Peaky Blinders gives us chills. It has been two years since the show’s fourth season, and that is too long. It appears Winston Churchill will be back and resume is shady partnership with Thomas Shelby when the fifth season airs.

THE 100

The CW’s sci-fi drama The 100 will return April 30 with the trip to a new planet. The show combines a post-apocalyptic storyline with a space odyssey element. If you’re not caught up on the series, you can binge all 5 seasons on Netflix or catch up on The CW.

BIG LITTLE LIES

HBO’s Big Little Lies overtook streaming with its premiere in 2017. It has some of the biggest names in the industry — Reese Witherspoon, Nicole Kidman, Shailene Woodley, Zoe Kravitz and Laura Dern — and it will add Meryl Streep. Yeah, we’re freaking out too. There’s no telling what this season will have in store, but we can’t wait until its premiere in June.
