THE GOOD DAUGHTER STUNS
Rose Byrne + Meghann Fahy Thriller
Two young sisters survive unthinkable trauma…decades later, a school shooting in their small Georgia hometown brings all the sins of the past to the surface. Rose Byrne and Meghann Fahy star as the estranged sisters in Karin Slaughter’s The Good Daughter.
In addition to creating the source material, Slaughter is responsible for writing all six episodes of the limited series which will be available in its entirety beginning November 12th. The author has taken great care in adapting her novel, and this is not the first of her books to be brought to the small screen. ABC’s series Will Trent and Netflix’s Pieces of Her were also based on Slaughter IP.

Bringing life to the adaptation is a hell of an ensemble — whose characters have been through a different kind of hell. The story takes place in multiple timelines unraveling multiple crimes. It is great to see complicated women, especially those who have been through what these characters have, take control of their journeys and stories, even if that journey is a messy one.
The ensemble is led by powerhouse Rose Byrne and White Lotus season two standout Meghann Fahy. Brendan Gleeson plays the sister’s conflicted father. Paula Malcolmson, previously mom to The Hunger Games’ Katniss Everdeen, plays pivotal roles in both timelines. Olivia Williams appears as mother to Audrey Grace Marshall and Drew Cheeks as a young Byrne and Fahy, respectively. It is also the first time Jake Dorman and Michael McDorman are part of the same cast. Newcomer Shayna Bernardo’s storyline will be key to many of the twists, turns and reveals.

Given the author of the book is the writer of the series, it would seem the story should be similar. That means being aware of the potential trigger warnings (also very vague possible spoiler alert) — sexual assault, as well as violence against women and children are some of the difficult topics covered in the world of the story, but in ways that should prompt appropriate and necessary discussion.

Like many small town stories covering a variety crimes and wrongs that span generations, the characters of The Good Daughter are in for a roller coaster ride, and viewers can look forward to joining them on November 12th on Peacock.
