It has been nearly a year since Hulu announced that we would go a year without a new season of The Handmaid’s Tale. Well, PROVOKRs, that wait is almost over because the streaming platform indicates that season four of the Elisabeth Moss-led dystopian drama starts on April 28

Yes, that June release date — because of the lead character’s name, for sure — is no more. It would be torture to have us wait that long. The end of season three brought freedom of the children in Gilead, including June and Luke’s child, Hannah. June led that operation but (again) failed to make it to Canada.

Season four picks up after June was shot. Now, it seems, she’s leading the resistance from within Gilead but not as a Handmaid. Without the boundaries and even more secrecy, we’re hoping June will be able to reverse the powers at hand in season four. By the looks of the trailer — watch it by clicking the image at the top of the article — this season takes on much more of an apocalyptic vibe. June is hiding in a bunker, and Gilead is in ruins. It’s going to be much different aesthetically than past seasons.

And, it seems, there is no end in sight for the Emmy-winning series. Bruce Miller leaves that up to Moss herself: “As long as Lizzie will do this with me, I’ll keep going,” he told Deadline. “There’s a lot of life in this story. I’m certainly fascinated by what happens in The Testaments and if that’s going to be part of our future, that’s a bigger question.”

Moss has maintained a busy schedule for years. Despite COVID-19 throwing a wrench into the release schedule, Moss was the lead in two films last year: Shirley and the box office hit The Invisible Man. Even with five more projects in production, we think Moss will keep The Handmaid’s Tale going.
