CAST OF THE POLITICIAN
Ben Platt, Gwyneth Paltrow, Lucy Boynton

Ryan Murphy’s first show under his new Netflix contract is here. The Politician premieres Sept. 27, and its cast is top-notch — even by Murphy’s standards. The cast of the comedy/musical takes some people from Murphy’s Glee days all the way up to American Horror Story. Get to know the stellar cast below:
BEN PLATT
Ben Platt takes the lead as the ambitious, aspiring president Payton Hobart in The Politician, but you might know him from his other ventures. Ben played the loveable, sometimes-awkward Benji in the Pitch Perfect franchise. His Broadway credits are longer than his screen appearances. Ben played Elder Arnold Cunningham in The Book of Mormon and rightfully won a Tony Award for the hit Dear Evan Hansen. His role in this production, though, is unlike anything we’ve ever seen him in before.

LUCY BOYNTON
Lucy Boynton’s career is about to really take off. The actress has guest starred in several TV shows, but her breakout role came with Bohemian Rhapsody. Lucy played Mary Austin, the woman who was in a relationship with Freddie Mercury. Her performance was definitely a highlight of the music biopic, and we can’t wait to see her in this show.

GWYNETH PALTROW
OK, what can we say about Gwyneth Paltrow that hasn’t already been said? The actress and entrepreneur has been in the public eye for years, appearing in countless films and TV shows. Most notably, the actress plays Pepper Potts in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In the Ryan Murphy universe, Gwyneth played rebellious teacher Holly Holiday. Her character name hasn’t been revealed yet, but we’re hoping it’s another alliteration.

ZOEY DEUTCH
This could be Zoey Deutch’s breakout performance. The actress’ most mainstream role was in Netflix’s progressive romcom Set It Up. Zoey’s comedic flair is sure to add some personality to The Politician.

JESSICA LANGE
Jessica Lange isn’t on American Horror Story anymore — and it looks like this might be one reason why. The seasoned actress will play Rose in The Politician, which is a sweeter-sounding character than any of her AHS roles.

LAURA DREYFUSS
Laura Dreyfuss is another Glee alumna, but she’s most known for her performance in Dear Evan Hansen. That’s right, the performer will reunite with Ben Platt. She also won a Tony for Favorite Breakthrough Performance (Female) as Zoe Murphy.

BOB BALABAN
Bob Balaban has done it all in his more than 50 year career. He is a producer, director, writer and actor. His greatest hits include Gosford Park (which earned him an Oscar nomination) and the 1977 film Close Encounters of the Third Kind.

DAVID CORENSWET
David Corenswet hasn’t had his big break yet. (The up-and-comer doesn’t even have a Wikipedia page yet!) But the stunner is looking to capture hearts and minds as the presumed love interest of Platt’s character. Hopefully this will be the show to launch him into a successful career.

JULIA SCHLAEPFER
You might recognize Julia Schlaepfer from her performance as Manson Family member Sandra Good in the film Charlie Says. The actress has four credits to her name — two of which were guest appearances on Madam Secretary and Instinct. It’s safe to say Murphy definitely saw something in this woman that we should pay attention to.

THEO GERMAINE
Theo Germaine is another fresh face in the industry. They have been in many stage production but only have five screen credits to their name. Most recently, Theo starred in the indie hit Adam.

RAHNE JONES
The Politician is Rahne Jones’ first ever acting credit. And we are sure it won’t be her last.

BENJAMIN BARRETT
Benjamin Barrett has mostly appeared in short films, so the show will also serve as his largest production to date. But if we know anything about Murphy, it’s that he can launch a person’s career overnight. So prepare to grow accustomed to seeing the newcomers on your screens for years and years.
