Liquid Slow is a techno piece set to house music, portraying the life of dancers entangled in a complicated crime world. It starts with a close up of the protagonist, followed by a pull-back to reveal him on a large dance floor. The cut, “Liquid Slow,” plays in the background of a wild dance party. Flashbacks between two characters coincide with a mixture of camera angles that tell the story of a robbery of one character and relationship with another.

The film stars Juana Chi & Wellington Paulino. Nogari directs this video, using a super-8 film screen aesthetic over his footage. Iconoclast produces this work; they’ve done similar art pieces in fashion and film. The shoot was in Sao Paulo, Brazil, creating a philosophical inquiry into how space and time operate within this world. The music plays ominously in the background of the psychedelic thriller as Chi’s character re-enacts a robbery against Paulino’s character.  It shows the relationship between Chi and Paulino.

The actors create links between the dance moves, action and the storyline. Instead of dialogue, fast-paced movement blends time and tempo so that the editors, Fernando Nogari & Rami D’aguiar, can create stylistic paces with crisp editing. The underground operates as a place for expression and emotional release, while the outside is a frustrating and constricting world that places limitations on characters. Liquid Slow is strong and PROVOKR invites you to take a look.
