Glittering water droplets trailing down the bare back of a young man. A horse’s rippling muscles. A racing river that plays home to the athletic escapades of a group of men. By blending Spanish guitar licks and pop beats, Guitarricadelafuente — real name: Álvaro Lafuente Calvo — has created a completely new sound — one that fans all over the world are responding to.
Calvo got his start posting covers online, growing a following on social media who were delighted when he began sharing his own original music, including popular singles “nana triste” and “Full time papi.” He also garnered praise for his ability to blend folk, pop, flamenco, and rumba, as well as his impressive guitar skills and his zanfona-playing, a Spanish-style hurdy-gurdy.

His latest release, sophomore album Spanish Leather, has already racked up millions of streams; particularly, lead single “BABIECA!,” a bouncy song that shares the story of a chance encounter Calvo had on the dancefloor with a beautiful stranger.
Calvo’s star is currently on the rise. He recently collaborated with pop star Troye Sivan, scored a performance at NPR’s Tiny Desk, and is set to appear alongside Penelope Cruz and Glenn Close in upcoming movie La Bola Negra.

“It’s been an experience,” he told I-D of shooting the movie. “It was an intense experience and the timing was odd and perfect. When they approached me for it, I thought it was a perfect synergy with Spanish Leather. My character in the movie is an extension of myself. Playing him felt like being myself in a historically different context.”
Calvo’s sexy visuals bring the sensuality of his music to life, making him an artist to watch.
