STUNNING, HUMAN IMAGERY
Jay Giampietro's in I've Never Been A Fisherman

Producer/Director Joe Stankus creates a documentary that is beautiful and mysterious. The video’s locale is NYC and stars Jay Giampietro, an Instagram street photographer who snaps pictures of compelling subjects. Giampietro points his camera at various types of people to deliver fresh, entertaining images of femininity and masculinity. Stankus’ film I’ve Never Been a Fisherman is a glowing example of crisp imagery with robust designs. Giampietro takes pictures of people on benches or sleeping alongside one another and creates observational images for Instagram.
This video is a compilation of urban photography. Mostly set on the Lower East Side of Manhattan, Giampietro’s work fills social media feeds. He has up to 9000 followers on his Instagram. Stankus’ documentary positions Giampietro on center stage. I found his work innovative and Giampietro a compelling subject and talent for Stankus. Check out his snaps on Instagram @jaygiampietro. He emphasizes New Yorkers, but he also takes beautiful urban scapes. I found both categories riveting and deserving of serious attention. All photographers should exhibit his poise and passion for photography. Stankus delivers a video that isn’t over-produced. He also includes someone getting a blow job on a bench during the daytime–it sure turned a lot of heads. Giampietro focuses on age and facial features–trying to capture beautiful people on the Lower East Side. PROVOKR loves this video and you should check it out, too. It’s an official selection at Rotterdam, DOC NYC and New Hampshire. Watch Joe Stankus’ festival premiering film, I’ve Never Been A Fisherman, on Vimeo.
