THE NEIGHBOR’S WINDOW
Voyeuristic Oscar Winner From Marshall Curry

“The Neighbor’s Window” is a short film about voyeurism and assumptions. A middle-aged couple peers into an apartment in New York and expresses jealousy about the younger couple who live there. The protagonists question their age and sex life. But, not everything is as it seems. Later, a member of the young couple is diagnosed with cancer. So, it evolves into a lesson about empathy and satisfaction with one’s life.
Marshall Curry directs, edits, and produces the Academy Award-winning short for Best Live Action Short Film. The performances, starring Maria Dizzia and Greg Keller, offer authenticity to the story based on a real-life situation. In addition, there are similarities between Curry’s characters and those of Sophia Coppola or Spike Jonze. Curry has directed since 1970 and received Award nominations for his documentary work. His feature projects, Street Fight, If A Tree Falls: A Story of the Earth Liberation Front, and Night At the Garden, all received Academy recognition for their ingenuity. His films have won awards at Tribeca, Sundance and have been shown around the world.
Curry’s work transcends geopolitical boundaries and encourages introspective thoughts of issues that plague America today, i.e., nature, politics, and geography. Curry utilizes his documentary storytelling techniques, and ” The Neighbor’s Window” is based, as we said, on a true story.
