THE NEW ABOLITIONISTS
Sex Trafficking and Saving One Child At A Time
Filmmaker Christina Zorich’s documentary “The New Abolitionists” on human sex trafficking in Asia, was an all-encompassing six-year endeavor. The film tracks Zorich’s journey as she and her team follow committed abolitionists throughout Southeast Asia as she documents the trajectories of the Christian ministries and NGOs (non-government organizations) who save children and teens entrapped and enslaved in the sex trade throughout Cambodia and Thailand.
Of all the regions in the world, South East Asia ranks the highest in the human trafficking industry. It is here that they document, via interviews and the real life travails of each brave abolitionist as they infiltrate bars, prepare to prosecute and pull out children and young women from a life of slavery.
Human trafficking is a complex and insidious cycle that must be eradicated.
“With this film,” says Zorich, “I set out to not only expose the causations of trafficking, but to reveal practical solutions. My hope is that learning from these brave abolitionists will inspire others to join the fight in whatever way they can.”
The film is currently on the festival circuit awaiting distribution. Check out the harrowing trailer:
