Reese Witherspoon's Production And A Superb Cast
Where the Crawdads Sing is an upcoming drama directed by Olivia Newman, from a script written by Lucy Alibar. It is based on the New York Times best selling novel of the same name by Delia Owens. It follows the coming of age story of Kya Clark, nicknamed “Marsh Girl” by the townspeople of Barkley Cove. After being abandoned by her family, she raised herself by the marshlands of the 1950’s south. After a young man, to whom Kya was once connected, in town is found murdered, she becomes the prime suspect.
The film is being produced by Reese Witherspoon under her media company Hello Sunshine. The film shot between March 30 and June 30, 2021. It is currently scheduled to be released on July 22, 2022. Let’s take a look at the cast now.
Daisy Edgar-Jones as Catherine “Kya” Clarke
Edgar-Jones is best known for her role as Marianne in the Hulu miniseries Normal People, for which she garnered BAFTA and Golden Globe Award nominations. She also guest starred in 2 episodes of HBO’s Gentleman Jack. Where the Crawdads Sing is Edgar-Jones’ second feature film after 2018’s Pond Life.
Taylor John Smith as Tate Walker
Smith is best known for his role as John Keene in the HBO miniseries Sharp Objects, which starred Amy Adams, Patricia Clarkson, Chris Messina, and Eliza Scanlen. His most well-known film role to date is as 1st Lieutenant Andrew Bundermann in the war drama The Outpost.
Harris Dickinson as Chase Andrews
Dickinson first gained recognition for his starring role in the Sundance darling Beach Rats, where he played a closeted gay teen in Coney Island. He then went on to star in the films Postcards from London, Maleficent: Mistress of Evil, The Souvenir Part II, and The King’s Man. He also starred in the FX series Trust.
David Strathairn as Tom Milton
What introduction does Strathairn need? This Emmy-winning (for his role in Temple Grandin), Academy Award-nominated (for his role in Good Night, and Good Luck) actor has been wowing audiences for years with his performances. Most recent film roles include Nomadland and Nightmare Alley.
Garret Dillahunt as Pa
Dillahunt has been playing notable supporting roles in major motion pictures for years. Some of his best known roles are in the films No Country for Old Men, The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford, Winter’s Bone, Looper, and 12 Years a Slave. He also has a load of major TV credits.
Ahna O’Reilly as Ma
O’Reilly is best known for her roles in the feature films The Help, Jobs, and Bombshell. She also had multiple episode arcs in the tv shows Kingdom and The Morning Show.
