MITKSI’S LAUREL HELL IS FIRE
She's The Only Heartbreaker
Indie queen Mitski is finally releasing the follow-up to 2018 album Be the Cowboy, and fans can’t wait to hear it! Her next album, Laurel Hell, is expected to drop February 4, and the artist has already given fans a taste of what’s in store.
Mitski released singles “Working for the Knife,” “The Only Heartbreaker,” “Heat Lightning,” and “Love Me More.” She wrote most of the album’s songs throughout 2018, using the pandemic lockdowns to fine tune the tracks.
“Laurel Hell is a soundtrack for transformation, a map to the place where vulnerability and resilience, sorrow and delight, error and transcendence can all sit within our humanity, can all be seen as worthy of acknowledgment, and ultimately, love,” Mitski said in a press release about the album.
“I needed love songs about real relationships that are not power struggles to be won or lost,” she continued. “I needed songs that could help me forgive both others and myself. I make mistakes all the time. I don’t want to put on a front where I’m a role model, but I’m also not a bad person. I needed to create this space mostly for myself where I sat in that gray area.”
Her new songs explore every aspect of a relationship, good and bad, beautiful and messy. Mitski’s poetic way of putting things has earned her a devoted following, and fans can’t wait for Laurel Hell!
